What most people don't realize is that Rebel Assault only -simulates-
arcade action. Rather than having direct control of your craft, you are
merely providing on-the-fly instructions for the graphics to branch this
way (turn left) or that way (dive, turn right, etc.). In other words,
every action you take has already been plotted and drawn, you're merely
telling the computer which direction to take.

I realize this is a pretty odd concept, but this is coming direct from
the programmers of the game. It's basically a high-speed, extremely
sophisticated, action-oriented variation on the old Dragons Lair and Space
Ace laser disc games.

So, even those the game has been called simplistic and difficult to
control, once you realize what's really going on, it's pretty remarkable.
