I use Lightning for Windows (I also have Lightning CD) both from Lucid
Corp. It performs well and is very configurable. Without Lightning
enabled, it takes about a minute to load Windows (I use a LOT of fonts).
With Lightning enabled, it takes less than 15 seconds.

No software cache will turn your slow CD into a speed demon. A cache only
works on data that's already been read once by the computer. So any
program (CD or disk based) that constantly reads new information in the
buffer won't see much increase in speed. If you're constantly moving back
and forth between the same sets of menus, however, you'll be amazed at the
difference it makes.
