I've left the long version on comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.cd-rom in case you're interested in the journey of tech support. There is a small flag for the aspcd0 command in the mscdex line. It goes something like this: mscdex (blahblah) aspcd0 (blah blah) /type:nec Look in the back of the Adaptec manual for precise instructions, but this is THE solution for those of you who have tried vers. 2.03 2.04 & 3.0 to no avail. This is in your config.sys by the way. This is also a problem that NEC, Adaptec, or Creative couldn't solve for me, so Merry X-mas to all you fellow 3Xi SoundBlaster 16 believers!!!
