Date: 7 Jan 1994 19:47:04 GMT Organization: School of Computer Science, McGill U, Montreal Lines: 39 Message-ID: <2gke7o$k16@homer.cs.mcgill.ca> NNTP-Posting-Host: bluebeard.cs.mcgill.ca Summary: no sound with music cds with 563 & SBPro X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL0] Xref: cdrom.com comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.cd-rom:1080 alt.cd-rom:138 I'm using the Creative Labs Omni CD kit (model 563) with a SoundBlaster Pro (Deluxe Edition). It works fine, in both windows and dos -- both sound and video run fine. Unfortunately, whenever i try and play an audio-cd, the sound won't come out of the soundblaster. It does come out of the headphone jack, but no matter how much i play with the volume controls i can't get anything out of the speakers. I checked the cables connecting the 2 devices (cdrom is internal), and they seem fine. But since i get sound when i play sounds from, say, a multimedia encyclopedia, i'm at a loss as to why i don't get sound from audio cds. I've tried the music-cd player in both dos and windows, as well as the media player in windows. Any ideas? I've a 486DX/33, AMI Bios, and i'm running with sbcd.sys version 2.22 and mscdex version 4.11 (or maybe its the other way around?). I've also tried mscdex 4.12 (came with dos 6.2), and sbcd.sys 2.23 (downloaded from Creative's bbs), but it changes nothing. my sbcd.sys line has parameters: /D:MSCD001 /P:220 /S:A0 and mscdex has: /D:MSCD001 /M:15 /V and my SBPro is at 220, IRQ7, DMA-1 (and yes, the BLASTER variable is set). Anyone know why, or how to fix it? Clark clump@cs.mcgill.ca -- Finger me for my pgp key: clump@bluebeard.cs.mcgill.ca
