I am thinking of getting a Sony SDU-33A drive for my PC. But I would
like to find out wheather the drive can read CD-ROM XA disc such as
Photo-CD and Video CD. I have read the Feb 22 issue of PC Magazine but got
a conflicting info. On the comparison chart, SDU-33A was indicated as
not supporting CDROM-XA. However, when reading the passage, it said
that both the Sony SDU-33A and SDU-531 can read Photo CD and XA disc.
I am really confuse.
About the CD-I comparison chart, what does it mean by not supporting
CD-I standard? I though the undelying architecture of CD-I is the
CD-DA (Red Book) format and if a drive can read the CD-DA sectors than
it can also read a CD-I sectors.
