I am having an annoying problem with my Mac IIci and a Toshiba 3401B
external CD-ROM drive. I was using my CD-ROM drive with the Aris World
Views CD and when I tried to eject it, I got the message that it was
unable since it was being shared. I did not understand this since I was
not connected to anyone else. I did however have file sharing on for
those times when I connect with mu PB100. So, I went to file sharing
preferences and deleted this file with the same name as my World Views
CD. I also turned off file sharing and the CD ejected just as expected. I
then put in another CD-ROM, this one an ISO 9660 format Shakespeare CD.
This one was not recognized and I got the "This disk is unreadable by
this Mac ... " message and it said eject or initialize. I ejected. After
several restarts, I could actually insert the disk and it would come up
as "Untitled" and when I opened up the icon, it had nothing in it. I
tried other ISO 9660 disks that I have used before and the same, Untitled
and empty.

Now, the problem ....... whenever I boot up now, the first mesage I get
is the "This disk is unreadable by this Mac .." and it has a picture of a
CD-ROM in the upper left corner, so I know it's a CD-ROM that it thinks
should be on the desktop but does not find readable. This is without any
CD in the drive. Obviously, it thinks I turned off or something with
this unreadbale CD-ROM and it remembers it somehow. No matter what I do,
I can't shake this message. I zapped PRAM, rebuilt the desktop. It has
survived it all. I think my Desktop, Desktop DB, or Desktop somehting
else is corrupt but since they are all hidden I can trash it/them. I
don't even know if you can do that.

The really strange thing is that if I keep hitting eject for that "This
disk is unreadable ..." message about 8-10 times, the desktop comes back
and everything works fine. But I know that message is not a good sign and
I need to get rid of it. By everything, I mean everything but those ISO
9660 disks. They still don't work.

Before I reformat and reinstall the system, I am looking for an easier
fix. Can I get to those hidden files and tracxh the one that is corrupt?
If so, how? Which file stores this info?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Joon
