San Francisco, Calif.- March 5, 1994: Our 10-day Intensive
MultiMedia Design Workshop immerses aspiring multimedia producers
in a roll-up-your-sleeves, hands-on assignment --

Make a CD prototype for a real-world project

under the guidance of an all-star teaching team, including
veteran producers: Tom Bair, Eric Oesterle, Kyle Kosup, and
Rafael Olivas. Students start at the beginning, and get into
researching, designing, storyboarding, scripting, shooting video,
desktop video editing and, finally, in the last half of the
workshop, putting the pieces together and finishing a working prototype.

Students learn to use and integrate a variety of Mac software
and media such as CD-ROM, Quicktime, Premiere, HyperCard, Photoshop,
Macromedia Director, digital audio, 3D modeling and animation,
and video sources.

OVERVIEW

- The objective is to learn about multimedia by creating a
design example for a public benefit client. You create a
CD prototype and accompanying software and graphics.
The project will let the user explore the process of creating
good multimedia design, including interactivity, navigation,
feedback, digital video and audio, screen and interface design.

- The focus is on tools, design, and process. You'll receive
introductions to excellent tools for multimedia development,
including HyperCard, Photoshop, Director, SoundEdit Pro,
Premiere, and CoSa. Since technology changes so rapidly,
emphasis is placed on the concepts and process of
interactive multimedia design, rather than on technical details.

- You're in the role of an apprentice, in a holistic
production environment, working under the supervision of
pros who've done it before. You'll work in teams, and learn
firsthand about the roles and responsibilities of the wide
range of team players needed to produce successful multimedia.

- Several existing multimedia titles are analyzed and
discussed. The Center's library of CD-ROM titles offers
numerous opportunities for you to study more examples.

- Guest speakers join us to discuss aspects of interactive
multimedia design and production, and to critique final projects.

The workshop costs $2000 (see discounts above) and meets daily for
two weeks from 9 to 5, with evening and weekend lab time available.
