This message is being cross-posted to several lists. I apologize for
any duplications.

I have been asked to find out if there is any *documented* information
on the preservation implications of attaching security devices to
compact discs. We are concerned primarily with information that applies
to devices specially designed for CDs, not the early practice is sticking
regular tattle-tape to discs. We are also not interested in anecdotal
or "I heard that..." instances. We are trying to find out if anyone
has done real investigation of this issue. If anyone knows citations
of published results, or knows of someone who is working on this
empirically, we would love to hear from you.
  Please respond to me directly, as I do not subscribe to most of these
