Robert,
I have Street Atlas V2.0, and an HPLJ4P printer. Until recently the driver
for the (very new) 4p wouldn't  work, and I had to use the LJ2 series printer
driver,which worked very well.
 
You have to select "raster"  and "print true type as graphics".
 
Try this and see if it works.
 
Street Atlas V2.0 is a wonderful program, and I really don't think you should
be so critical, considering what it cost you!
