Both are for Windows. I like the interface and feel of the Grolier's much better than the Compton's. The Grolier's articles can be printed directly from the program whereas the Compton's articles must be copied to the clipboard (max 5000 words) and then printed out after you exit the program. Both of these are older versions which I recently bought at a discount ($29 for Grolier's & $39 for Compton's). Newer editions may have changed drastically. If you are going to make a choice on an older edition going by my experience I would get the Grolier's. Good luck. /s
