This is just a thought but when you reinstalled the CD-ROM did you check to
be sure that the line in your autoexec.bat was changed to your DOS
directory?  So the line for mscdex.exe should read something like
c:\dos\mscdex.exe /F:mscd000 .  Also be sure that the device line in your
config.sys names the CD-ROM exactly the same as in your autoexec.bat.  In
this case the name would be... mscd000 .
