i have just started using "Street Atlas" on CDROM, a Windows-based
program. it contains just about every street in the US. (current
version is 2.0, and i paid $90 US at Best Buy.) it is reasonably good
on-screen. you can search by location, zip code, or phone exchange.

i am having minor problems when printing maps, however. if i print on
my dot-matrix printer, the aspect ratio is incorrect, with the
vertical axis stretched relative to the horizontal. the one time i
took a postscript output in to work to print, the aspect was fine, but
only the bottom 1/2 of the map was printed. i haven't had time to
resolve the printer problem, but i do in general like the package.
many of the maps i have printed have in fact been useful to me when
traveling.
