The MAIN issue of SCSI-II for CDROM is not speed (they are generally not FAST
SCSI-II, merely SCSI-II command set), is for audio CD play. Prior to SCSI-II,
there were no standards for SCSI commands for audio CD control, so vendors
all rolled their own, making a plethora of different command sets.
