Date: 17 Apr 1994 09:27:03 GMT Organization: State University of New York at Stony Brook Lines: 52 Message-ID: <2oqvd7$hv0@newsserv.cs.sunysb.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: oslx.cs.sunysb.edu X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL1] I looked in the ol' Comp Shop, And I noticed the Mitsumi #0001D for a rock bottom price of $165. Hmmm. Maybe It's time to be getting a cd-rom drive after all. However, I thought about this (and have been thinking about it). I am definitely going to get a CD-Rom drive for The Dig (Cd-rom only SVGA Adventure game by LucasArts, whee!) but that's not till next year probably. Right now, what are the can't live without games? Of the ones I can think of: 1) 7th Guest Rebel Assault - Placed together because They seem to be graphically stunning games, but not that great of games themselves. 7th guest looks cool, but from what I've read it seems like it would be more fun to watch than play. 2) Myst - This seems to be the closest to the can't live without for me. I'm not sure if the not knowing what to do would be more annoying for me or not. I think not. 3) Sierra games - I don't do sierra adventures. I find them irritating and their puzzles illogical, and I don't like the interface, either. Although I must confess I haven't played one since Space quest 4. I haven't felt like clunking any more cash to find out if I'll like another. 4) LucasArts Adventures - I have them all on floppy disk versions already. Although the voices are worth playing them for, it is hard to justify clunking down so much cash for so little play time. (since I won them already) 5) Various other adventures where I've heard they are cool, but their puzzles rank along the illogical breed. (Return to Zork, Legend of Kyriandia). 6) Floppy disk versions put on Cd-rom. (Ultima, Might & magic, etc). 7) Cool outside, Sparse inside. (Megarace, Quantum leap, Microcosm) Anyway, so as far as I can see, most of the past isn't really that essential, but there don't seem to be that many impressive games for cd-rom coming out in the near future. Maybe Outpost, maybe mechwarrior II. Is TIE fighter coming out on cd-rom? Should I just wait till the end of the year and get a cd-rom when the dig comes out? Anyway, I have had urges to get a cd-rom drive pretty badly, but when I actually start to perform the act of shelling out the bucks, I find myself not able to justify it. So, try to convince me, and debate my possibly over-generalized points. (I'm mostly an adventure game fan, although I do like games of almost any sort.) I guess this is probably going to turn into another 'what are your favorites' thread, actually, even though that's not quite what i intended it to be.
