well, i have recieved substanial feed back to ask a question on this matter.
 
apparently mscd0001 is not a file, although i'll swear on a stack of manuals 
that i deleted it. funny. well, anyway the reason i continue to believe it's a 
file is because i used MSDOS help on the command MSCDEX.EXE. in the syntax,
i THINK it says that one of the switches is:  /d[driver] or something to that 
effect. anyway the switch matched precisely the one in my autoexec.bat under
mscdex [bunch of stuff i forgot] /d:MSCD0001 somebody help me on whateverkmy 
misconception is.

needless to say, of course, the drive is inoperative.

oh yeah, just remembered.  when debugging it, i found an "unusual message" 
during the autoexec sequence. 

cannot find 'MSCD0001'
that's all i can remember now. HELLLLLLLP!!!!!
