Doug:

These are just starting to show up.  A new IDE baord was recently put on 
the market that amoung other things can handle CD-ROM Drives. They can 
alos handle drive siszes up to 32 Gig, and support High Speed Serial 
transfer rates.  They are typically known as Enhanced IDE or I prefer to 
call the Super IDE or SIDE for short.  Hope this helps...  :)
