Does anybody out there know if these drives : are any good, or have any info on the reputation of Aztech hardware. I'd like I bought an Aztech CDA-01A from CompUSA last week, but am returning it. I thought from the picture that it was compatible with the Mitsumi series, and would therefore work with NT, OS/2, Linux and freeBSD, (there are actually Mitsumi drivers for them). Alas it is not, and I was not able to get it to work on non-DOS OSes. It doesn't even with Panasonic drivers, so it is strictly a DOS only drive. As far as performance goes, the transfer speed of 300KB/sec sustained is quite reasonable, but the random access time is more like 400ms instead of 300ms, according to 2 CD-benchmark programs. Its a real cheap drive, but if you need to run alternative OSes, get something else.
