Kodak sells a) Writable CD Media 
and         b) Photo CD Media,
the latter of which are cheaper, but only available when images are recorded on
the discs. The Writable CD Media is the usual CD-R. It is more expensive.

Of course. But if you want to get the Photo-CD media, you would need a contract with Kodak. Otherwise, you could use standard CD-Rs for the same purpose, of
course.
