Assalamualaikum,
First of all, you could try the benchmark programs available in
ftp.cdrom.com somewhere in the jungle that is the directory structure
of such ftp sites (can somebody point the exact dir please? I can't
be bloody bothered to remember).
Alternatively, you can take my word for it that you CDROM is NOT
double speed if :
    i) at boot up, the driver does not identify it as FX001D (the
only double speed CDROM that Mitsumi has)
ii) the CDROM opens up with a snap and gapes at you (i.e. it's
like the jaws of an animal)
iii) I'm not too sure 'bout this, but Mitsumi only started to
manufacture dbl-speed CDROM drives early this year, so if it's
manufactured before 1994, it's not dbl-speed.

And another thing, if I'm not mistaken, if it's labelled CRMC,
then it's the Mitsumi LU005S, a single-speed, multisession, rather
good access time CDROM drive (but then, the box which contained the
FX001D also had CRMC written on it somewhere...can somebody clear
this up?).

Cheers.
