I don't have exactly the same problem, but something similar is happening to
me when I play T7G or Myst. If I start the game and then exit to the OS, I
CANNOT play it again unless I turn off the PC for several hours because the
video is painfully slow and the speech is too choppy to understand. I have a
486-50 with a Toshiba 3401 CDROM and PAS16 sound card.

I don't think it's caused by overheating, because all I have to do is turn on
my PC, start T7G, exit immediately, then try to start T7G again - the problem
appears immediately. I've left the PC off for 15 minutes and then tried it
again, and the problem is still there. I have to leave if off for several
hours before things are back to normal.

It's driving me crazy. Sorry I can't help with your problem, but maybe it has
similar roots to yours. Anyone?
