The Rebel Assault 1.7 patch is now available on wuarchive.wustl.edu in the
directory /pub/MSDOS_UPLOADS/patches.  I don't remember the exact name; do
a 'ls r*' to find the file... it should be obvious.

I found that this patch greatly improved joystick control, as well as handling
CD glitches and pauses much more smoothly.  I'm not sure if the calibration
routines have been improved, but I have discovered that calibrating the
joystick -slowly- (too minimize bounce) helps immensely, at least for the
older versions.
