When I read the manuals, it said that the audiocables toconnect the cd-rom to a PC were not included in the package(that was strange for me...). They added that for the aforesaid cables, I must call a number.... So I did, what resulted was a 5 minute wait at NEC office in the US (just the wait cost me $7 or so) after which I was told that in order to get the cables that can be connected between their cd-rom drive and an audio card, I must call another company @ so-and-so number, the company is called "CABLES TO GO". Well, just a small pair of cables, the cost price of just the cables and conn- ectors will be about 50 cents or so, I started to hunt in the Netherlands for the cables. I called NEC in the Netherlands, they said that yes they had the cables, they cost about $28 ~ dutch guilders 50 (horrifying), and they could'nt sell them to me, since I was not a company. I had to go to one of their retailers, I did that. The retailers said, (DUNET, in Rotterdam, and one more I forget), that they have their own versions of the cables, and they WILL-NOT order the cables from NEC to give them to me. I had begun to have serious doubts about NEC by then. After hunting for more than one day, several calls, a trip to the Hague, I gave up. I called the company "CABLES-TO-GO", waited 5minutes before my call was answered by someone, I was then routed to Mr Raphael of CABLES-TO-GO, I gave my order, he said ,YESSIRE, please send ASAP, YESSIRE your credit card no-sir? I gave that, very well sir, I hung up... That was over two weeks back. I called the same company last friday, 20th May, and had to wait another 5 minutes, I proceeded to tell about my order, it was not even registered in the company's computer. The receptionist, sweetly told me that Mr Raphael will call back to inform about the status of the order. I waited and waited, the whole day passed, no sign of the order... To prevent my sanity going haywire, I decided to let the net know about the silliness of this situation: Why doesn't NEC just supply the connectors to their end of the cables, with the cd-rom? What is NEC's responsibility in seeing that their customers are happy? Considering the costs that I have seen, I guess, I cant recommend NEC to anyone looking for good aftersales service. Granted that the cd-rom drive is fast, but the amount of pain it has caused me has made me hate the decision to go for NEC. I have spent: 1. One whole day searching for the damned cable 2. $ 20 or so on telephone calls alone 3. Wasted time without the audio from the cd-rom Can NEC compensate? Dear netters, if you want to buy NEC products, do it with extreme care, make sure that after sales is guarenteed...
