I cannot make my mind up if I should get a new machine with CDROM or just add one to my current machine. I have a Compaq Contura 4/25 with b/w screen. Is it feasible to connect a CDROM to it? How; it has no SCSI port. My interests are encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, et cetera; not games or girlie pics. If I can get a CDROM installed, will the software be any good without a colour screen (I can hook one on to a port on the back of the Compaq if I have to; is this a solution)? Will I have to add RAM (I only have 4 megs)? I heard that I can hook some sort of special cable to the parallel port, but cannot find on in any of the computer stores here. Who sells these cables mailorder (assuming that is what I need)? Does a 2X, 3X or 4X drive on one of these parallel to SCSI cables work as fast as one hooked into a proper SCSI card? How do I add sound, like a sound blaster or adlib to complete the package? The bottom line is, should I add to the Compaq or go for broke on a new 486 66 MHz super dooper colour go-fast? Thanks.
