HI,
In my never ending battle to spend more non-productive time
in front of my computer, I purchased 7th Guest this weekend
(told the clerk it was for my kids....:>). After reading
up on it some, I found that my single speed CD drive would
not be fast enough, and that even though I have a 486/33,
my video display adapter is too slow. The game runs and
is a great way to make a Sunday afternoon disappear, but....

Upgrading my video capabilities with an accelerator card should
help overall preformance for the game (as well as anything
else I am running on the system). I would, however, like to
see what it would take to upgrade my ROM drive to double-speed.
So the questions are:

What brand would you recommend for an upgrade? I have a Chinon
435 single speed drive I have had for less than a year. I am
very pleased with it. Are there upgrade programs from some
vendors? I do not need two CD drives. How do I unload the
other drive?

And is there any other way to improve performance on the game?
I have a 486/33, 8MB of RAM, Trident display adapter(64k cache),
SVGA monitor, 120MB Segate and 85MB Western Digital hard drives,
both floppies, middi tower, and a Soundblaster pro audio board.
Running DOS 6.2/Windows 3.1 and doublespace......

Thanks for any information that you may provide. Please respond
via email......
