I too have problems with the sound hiccupping, although not exensively.
I have a cheapie OAK Technologies video graphics accelerator and only 4
Meg Ram.  I thought the problem was due to my having a Philips CM205 
cd-rom which is known to have difficulties with Myst.  I am having them
send me the upgrade to Myst (version 1.01) which supposedly fixes somem of
this.  I'll let you know if it helps.
