This is a long shot, but hey, it happened to me: Is there any way to check
the lens of your CD drive? I have a manual-load Mitsumi and once it simply
refused to read discs. Since you can actually see the lens on my unit, I
noticed a chunk of fuzz was obscuring the laser. I removed it and it
worked fine. You never know...

I have a friend who has the auto-loading Mitsumi 2x drive and he has some
of the problems you describe. Usually it's because he tries to access it
too soon afte inserting a disc. Sometimes he actually has to eject and
insert it again for the drive to acknowledge the disc. Sound familiar?

Finally, check your drive's controller card to make sure the ribbons are
secure and the card is fully seated. You might try moving the card to a
different slot, just for grins.

Hope your problems clear up.

Scott
