Thanks. > Jeff, I've never heard of a camera that writes to CD, as in CD-ROM. There are cameras available that write to other storage media. The two basic types of cameras are still video cameras and digital cameras. Still video cameras usually store the images as an analog NTSC video signal on a small (2") floppy disk. To get the images onto a computer's hard disk, they must be captured through a video frame grabber. Each disk can hold about 50 low resolution or 25 high resolution images. Digital cameras actually store the images onto a disk as digital data. I've used Canon's RC-460 (discontinued) and RC-570 still video cameras in the past and found them to take good quality pictures. The RC-570 camera lists for around $2000 and you'll still need the video frame grabber. Canon sells an FV-540 Video Floppy Disk Drive which will capture your images to digital format. The FV-540 is approximately another $2000. For high-end quality pictures, Kodak sells a digital camera - the DCS 200. This camera uses a standard 35mm cameras body and exchangeable lenses with an electronic Charged Couple Device (CCD) camera back. The DCS 200 lists for about $9995. Ouch! Following are some names and numbers of camera vendors. These came from Computer Graphics World, Feb. '92 so some might be outdated.
