John Coggi, i vaguely remember the magazine article that claimed that, but
FWB's CD-ROM Toolkit speeds up all drives. It also does lots of other things.
It provides Kodak Photo CD to over 50 different drives. Multisession to
all that can do it. Mounts multiple volume CDs (ProDos, ISO9660+Mac
hybrids, etc). Supports ALL apple's CD-ROM driver commands on all drives
it claims to support. Has nice looking audio player.

If your cache files are stored on a fast hard disk in a fast partition
then programs that can pre-scan files to a disk based cache (such as
CD-ROM ToolKit) can go faster.

You speed is limited only by the speed of your hard disk, and of course
hard disks are much faster thatn even quadruple speed CD-ROM drives.

I used it and other accellerators, and I am sure it helps all CD-ROM
drives.
