If what you mean is to have the have the networked CD-ROM drive play a
CD audio track and automagically have the audio data appear (by some
undefined means) at the requesting workstation, then the rep is correct.
Think about it.

On the other hand, if your sound data is stored as (say) a .WAV file on
the data part of the CD which the workstation loads into memory and
plays, then there's no problem.

A number of multimedia titles do default to using audio tracks on the CD
to provide sound effects. Some of these can be told to use .WAV-type
files through a soundcard instead (I think the Grolier/SoftWare
Toolworks encyclopedia is one of these). This is what you will need to
do if networking multimedia titles.
