Message-ID: Summary: Want to transfer several books to cdrom. Keywords: text search input scan Lines: 28 Sender: usenet@tron.bwi.wec.com (Usenet_news poster) Organization: Westinghouse Electric Corp X-Newsreader: Trumpet for Windows [Version 1.0 Rev A] Date: Fri, 7 Jan 1994 00:39:40 GMT I have several books I'ld like to scan into electronic format so it would be easy to enter a search criteria and find references. There are several problems which I'm sure someone has solved: Which scanners work well with older books and fonts? Most of these books were published this century. Several around 1930. Which software works well with the scanner to convert bits to ascii text? Preferable making corrections easy to make. What text format would be optimal - ie SGML, Work Perfect, straight ASCII? Who sells software that would do the searching - first on hard disk for testing, and then packaged in the final CDROM product? What final format is required to send to the CDROM publisher? I'm not a business (at least that isn't my goal). I just have some volumes that I'ld like to preserve for a group of us that are interested in the subject matter. References to where the above is discussed are welcome - mags? books? ------------------------------------------------------------ | meb8ezx@ois.bwi.wec.com Westinghouse Electric Corp | | (410) 993-2649 Mail Stop 1207, P.O.
