My guess is that it's not a driver problem.  You say that your drive
misbehaves before booting and your PC will not recognize your
Soundblaster when it is hooked up to it.  My guess would be that you
don't have the card/drive interface connected correctly or the power to
one or both cards is intermittent.  In fact it may be that when you have
the two connected, you are pulling the SB out of its slot.  My suggestion
is to check all connectors.  Good luck.
