What hassle? The only SCSI component I have is the >cd-rom and I am using the PAS16 w/SCSI to control it. In fact, it (the >cd-rom) is the ONLY component that actually went it EXACTLY like the >manual described. No problems at all. Of course. That's the way it's supposed to happen. On the other hand, you could have just as easily installed a proprietary CD-ROM interface and had the exact same experience. What you are seeing is a result of packaging. Your CD-ROM and the PAS16 have been tested as a package on many machines, so you'd expect it to work. Now, try adding a hard disk to that PAS16 SCSI port. Oh, what the heck - try adding a couple of hard disks, a SCSI scanner, a SyQuest, and a DAT drive. Oh. You had to buy a different SCSI adapter, didn't you. The PAS16 won't handle all of those other devices. Hmm. Your new SCSI adapter doesn't seem to handle your CD-ROM drive correctly? Software to work with your tape drive? Sorry. I haven't seen any. Umm, no, I don't know how to change that drive so it doesn't have internal termination. Have you tried moving the scanner and DAT drive to the opposite ends of the chain? SCSI is great, and it usually doesn't cause many problems when adding new devices, but don't fool yourself into thinking that installing a single SCSI CD-ROM with a PAS16 with no problems means that SCSI is hassle-free. BTW, have you looked in your config files and fixed the things that the installer did wrong? You'll find out the next time you upgrade your system software... -- David Elliott - dce@netcom.com
