You are correct on the second count.  If you are playing an audio CD then it
runs in slow speed.  With Data CDs, it runs in the higher speed.  But it
depends on the CD, I believe that some data CDs have portions that are read
in slower speed.  I could be wrong about that last statement but it does
indeed depend on the type of CD.
