Lines: 27 I've been fairly consistent about mentioning OMI QuickTOPiX for the Mac when people ask questions about mastering software. It recieved high marks in a review of such software/hardware in New Media magazine (8/93). We even ordered a copy here. Well, it finally showed up. I lifted the manual out of the box and was dismayed to find that there is a dongle (a hardware copy-protect device) stuck in the bottom of the box. The dongle appears to attach as a "thru" device on the ADB bus. Dongles are an abomination, IMHO. They seem to either fail, leaving you stranded, or become incompatible with future releases of your OS. The supplied dongle, by Rainbow Technologies, may be perfectly wonderful and never suffer any of the mentioned maladies. My gut reaction, and that of my manager is to send the whole thing back. The product, QuickTOPiX is still probably as good as described. If you don't mind dongles, I'd still probably recommend it, based on other reports. However, I don't think I want it anymore.... My opinions only, not SAS Institute's. -- Steve Holzworth sch@unx.sas.com "Do not attribute to poor spelling SAS Institute x6872 That which is actually poor typing..."
