Some manufacturers of hard discs (e.g. Micropolis) offer special AV hard
discs (which means audio/video), for which they guarantee a specific
sustained data transfer rate. This would be best to use. Thermal calibration
does not necessarily cause a buffer underrun. If the buffer of the CD writer
is large enough and/or the duration of the recalibration is very short,
you will normally not encounter such problems. It is recommended by some
CD recordable software manufacturers to use a separate SCSI host adapter
for the CD recorder to enable posted writing.,

Philips CDD521 together with CeQuadrat's DosOnCD works fine for single session
and multiple volume CD-ROMs. It comes bundled with WinOnCD Lite and MacOnCD
Lite, so you have three platforms for one (low) price.
