Well, the $40 only depends on the number of disks purchased.

Actually, it is the barcode near the central hole that selects the
type of application.

Oh, you're lucky to get one without any data on it. The photo shops
should not be allowed to sell them for this price because it is calculated
as the sum of 100 image transfers.

But what a failure. The software would not eccept

As far as I know it is the firmware of the Kodak writer that changes
the behaviour. In fact the Kodak writer is essentially the same thing
as a Phillips device but that doesn't evaluate the (Kodak proprietary)
barcode.
