From Apple Computer (last September):
Annual sales (4 years ago): 7,000 units
                 2 years ago): 50,000 units
1993: 1,300,000 units projected (and exceeded)
45% of machines which are CD-ready (space for an internal CD drive) are
shipped with such a drive installed.

Estimate of CD-ROM media-rich titles (not just data dumps or software
   distribution): 1992: 600 DOS, 800 Mac
                  1993: 1500 Mac, 1500 DOS, 2000 Windows

Also, at Microsoft, send an eMail to mmdinfo@microsoft.com - they may
have some answers to your questions.

Finally - contact some of the CD-ROM catalogs to get an estimate of the
total numbers of titles available.
