Assuming one has a large amount of text-only data, wants to put this on
an ISO9660 CD-ROM, and make the data searchable by Macs, PCs and Unix
systems, which data retrieval software options does one have? Ideally
the data should be indexed with as low an overhead as possible, and one
ought to be able to search using the usual techniques: boolean, wildcard,
proximity searches etc.

It would also be highly desirable to include the software on the CD-ROM
and not have to produce a different CD-ROM for each architecture...

Thanks in advance,
