My e-mail address had a typo in it, so I am repeating it, asking anyone to reply to RMDP@csn.org. Thanks. We are working to set up a Marketing and maybe Sales COOP for selling CD-ROMs. We have learned the hard way that small development shops have a hard time surviving mainly due to the outrageous costs of marketing (advertising in one way or another). Publishers want your eldest son or daughter and warehouse companies want everything. We are thinking that a COOP that splits the cost of ads and computer shows might be able to survive. For a low cost product (like CD-ROMs are tending towards) it is usually not possible to make money with one ad, esp. before critical aclaim by the press. For instance, if you want a major catalog store to carry your CD-ROM(s), you must pay from $1000 to 2500 per issue (usually every 3-5 weeks), AND give them a 55-60% discount off the retail price of your product. If your product sells for $30, you must sell between 150 to 200 per issue, before you start making any money. This is just a lot for some of us. If you are a small CD-ROM developer for the Mac or PC and are interested in talking to a group of folks tired of pouring their money and time into the pockets of the big guys, send me an e-mail. I'll start a list and contact you soon. There is no committment required by answering this message, since we are just beginning to talk, but I'm really interested in those of you in this same business with similar concerns that might be willing to join. Make sure you give some indication of the kind of titles you produce (we won't consider porno titles for instance). Newt Perdue Rocky Mountain Digital Peeks e:Mail: RMDP@csn.org 303-258-3779
