I'm considering buying a CD-Rom. I've seen Plextor advertising : their new 4x for $459 or something like that. Why is it that cheap? NEC's : 3x is $469. I'm a little concerned over this seemingly great deal. Can : someone give me some feedback. List price for the 4PleX is $549.00, if some dealers want to make $10 profit by selling it at $459, that's their problem. :-) Avoid the 3x, if you must buy low end, buy a Toshiba 3401, Chinon 535 or Plextor 3028. All three of those drives will beat the 3X in most tests and real world applications. Supposedly NEC has released a new firmware to fix the problems of the 3x's, but I haven't seen it. : One more thing. I'm also looking at some MM kit. Is Media Vision's Pro : Audio Spectrum system III a NEC 3X? Don't put anything but a double-speed on the Spectrum if you can avoid it. Tripple/Quad is pushing the limits of the SCSI interface of that card. Go for a good quality 16-bit SCSI card like the Future Domain 1610 or Adaptec 1510. : Jay -- The opinions expressed are my own, they are in no way an offical statement or policy of Plextor Corp, fruits, vegtables, minerals and are not used in hospitals or recomended by doctors.
