Newsgroups: comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.cd-rom Path: cdrom.com!barrnet.net!decwrl!hookup!yeshua.marcam.com!usc!math.ohio-state.edu!jussieu.fr!univ-lyon1.fr!swidir.switch.ch!newsfeed.ACO.net!Austria.EU.net!EU.net!Germany.EU.net!netmbx.de!zib-berlin.de!ceres.fokus.gmd.de!mhs From: mhs@fokus.gmd.de (M.Schmeil) Subject: MITSUMI FX001D today: check/repair Message-ID: <1994Jul29.111340.7491@fokus.gmd.de> Sender: news@fokus.gmd.de (News system) Organization: GMD-Fokus (Berlin) Date: Fri, 29 Jul 1994 11:13:40 GMT Lines: 42 today i brought my 3 week old FX001D w/ 8-bit interface card back for a check. i finally gave up after testing with various driver versions (all MSCDEX, MTMCDAE and MTMCDAS), settings and CD-roms. i had lots of problems. the MTMCDAE driver with option /t:s worked best for me, but i still had lots of trouble. cdbench reported * unable to detect size via IOCTL * problems with larger jumps * unable to verify disksize cdbench didn't work at all with other settings than the above (didn't recognize cd-rom). different audio-cd-players refused to play or hang while setup. lots of CDR101 drive not readys system hangs after random time cd and dir caused cd to rootdirectory of cd-rom (on SB pro demo CD). no drive detection in about 5-10% of cold boot and 80-90% of warm boots. i'm 100% sure that i have no IRQ DMA I/O conflicts but as i said, DMA mode didn't work at all. i'd like to know if the IOCTL warning from cdbench means anything. the drive usually scanned half the cd- rom and then stopped with this message (a dejusted laser maybe?). seems like i have no 600+ MB cd-roms (rebel assault? corel draw 4.0 rev c? cps SB pro 4.0 demo? a game compilation?) but after that cdbench reported an average access of about 205ms (peek was more than 1500ms!) and about 307000b/s data transfer rate. i have no trouble HW in my system, the only other stuff is a sb pro 4.0 and a tseng et4000 card. the latter one sometimes screws with the colours (wrong pallette), but that's the only problem. i'm curious about the results from this check... - tB!
