I suspect either will do fine. I have the Chinon and am very happy with it.
A friend of mine has a Toshiba and it also seems to work fine. The Chinon
is supposed to have better AVI performance. The Chinon is made nicely
and runs _very_ cool. The CD's don't even come out warm after several
hours use.
