I can see that my SONY CD drive isn't the only one to get hot.

I've noticed that my drive wasn't getting hot when no used: that is I can
turn on my computer for a day, the CD drive won't be hot (in fact it'll be
slightly hot). If I use it, play a CD or two, it gets VERY hot. So, It's
probably due to the motor.

Now, the question is: IS IT OK FOR CDs TO GET THAT HOT?

I know that when the temperature of the air increases the light
propagation might be altered and then the reading of the CDs too. The
drive would then have to oversample more and more and... sometimes, when
the drive is too hot, oversampling won't be enough. That's what I have
when I'm listening to CDs for more than 5 hours. The drive is not able to
read the last track anymore.
This is bad but non-destructive (though it OVERUSES the CD oversampler).

But: IS HEAT DESTROYING TO THE CDs?

I'd like to hear something about it. I'd like also to hear something about
non-SONY CD drives. Are they hot too?
