Are you sure you have the name right?  I have seen lots of cdrom brands 
and have never come across a Wearner, nor read anything about them.  You 
say uou have heard rumors about them being bad, have you read reviews of 
them in the many magazines that review equipment?  Please post a 
reference so others can check it out, if this is a new brand on the market.
